چکیده

Two-quasiparticle K58 isomeric states in the A;130 and 180 regions are studied with configurationconstrained calculations of potential-energy surfaces. Strong shape-polarization effects due to the two quasiparticles are found. In particular, the nuclei Pb,Hg, and Te can be polarized from ground-state spherical or oblate shapes to prolate shapes, indicating a combination of K isomerism and shape isomerism as the Fermi level approaches shell closure. @S0556-2813~99!02902-7#

Favored configurations for four-quasiparticle K isomerism in the heaviest nuclei

Configuration-constrained potential-energy-surface calculations are performed including β6 deformation to investigate high-K isomeric states in nuclei around 254No and 270Ds, the heaviest nuclei where there have been some observations of two-quasiparticle isomers, while data for four-quasiparticle isomers are scarce. We predict the prevalent occurrence of four-quasiparticle isomeric states in t...

High-K isomers as probes of octupole collectivity in heavy nuclei

The influence of the octupole deformation on the structure of high-K isomeric states in the region of heavy even-even actinide nuclei is studied through a reflection asymmetric deformed shell model (DSM). Two-quasiparticle states with high-K values are constructed by taking into account the pairing effect through a DSM+BCS procedure with constant pairing interaction. The behaviour of two-quasip...

K Isomerism and Collectivity in Neutron-Rich Rare-Earth Isotopes

Neutron-rich rare-earth isotopes were produced by in-flight fission of 238U ions at the Radioactive Isotope Beam Factory (RIBF), RIKEN, Japan. In-flight fission of a heavy, high-intensity beam of 238U ions on a light target provides the cleanest secondary beams of neutron-rich nuclei in the rareearth region of isotopes. In-flight fission is advantageous over other methods of nuclear production,...

Nuclear isomers: structures and applications

Isomeric states in the nuclei along the rapid proton capture process path are studied by the projected shell model. Emphasis is given to two waiting point nuclei 68Se and 72Kr that are characterized by shape coexistence. Energy surface calculations indicate that the ground state of these nuclei corresponds to an oblate-deformed minimum, while the lowest state at the prolatedeformed minimum can ...

Mixing effects on K-forbidden transition rates from the 6 isomers in the N = 104 isotones

The problem of the very different E2 decay rates from the two-quasineutron K = 6 isomers in the N = 104 isotones Er, Yb, Hf, and W is investigated using the triaxial projected shell model with inclusion of multi-quasiparticle configurations. It is demonstrated that the highly K-forbidden transition from the 6 isomer to the ground-state band is sensitive to mixing with the 6 state of the γ-vibra...
